Hybrid Drive Project

The Building A Future Foundation has a joint collaboration of two years (till end 2016) with the University of Gent in Belgium on the research and the development for the conversion of fuel driven three-wheelers widely used in Sri Lanka and India into emission free electric engine vehicles.

Researches are focused on three-wheelers (tuktuk), boat drives and generators and are based on exchanges and synergies between BAFF team in Sri Lanka and Prof. Van den Bossche’s team at UGent. Prof Van den Bossche has specific know-how and expertise in the field of High efficiency Low Weight Asymmetric Concentrated-Pole Outer-Rotor Permanent-Magnet Motors.

As soon as the system works efficiently, three wheelers vehicules will be used by Sail Lanka Charter to collect and drop tourists from their hotel to the harbour.
